Memorabilia From J. N. Warfield Trip to Taiwan

Ephemera relating to Warfield’s trip to Taiwan. Likely includes brochures of the conference or meeting Warfield attended.

I don't know what all is in Folder 17, probably just Taiwanese brochures of the conference or meeting that Warfield attended there. I noticed this entry in the Finding Aid for SC&A's Warfield Collection GMU, where the memorabilia is listed as UNDATED. I have tried to figure out and make a record of the date of Warfield's Taiwan trip. I know the date in a general way because we were living in Columbus at the time and John Warfield was working for Battelle and Dan Warfield had married and left home and Nancy Warfield I think drove me to the airport to give John his passport which he had forgotten and they held the plane until we dashed up in the car to bring him his passport, Tom Warfield having been the only one at home knowing exactly where it was because Tom had been looking at it before John's trip in his curious way and he knew where to look in John's desk. Nancy had to drive the car because I had sprained my knee while ice skating and couldn't drive, so we got into the car and raced across Columbus in the early morning to the Columbus airport, just barely making it in time for them to grab the passport from the car and maybe it was the flight attendant who came out for it, I don't recall, anyway John got on the plane for his first trip to the Orient in that manner. Those were the days before we got smart enough to write flight numbers and dates in engagement calendars. Or maybe I just couldn't find the right calendar, anyway I am sure it was about 1971 because Nancy was just old enough to drive the car or we wouldn't have made it at all. R.w. 14 August 2013.

Update on above notes, as of August 11, 2016 - I found the correct dates for this trip, John's Id TAG from that trip, while going through box of old souvenirs.  The tag reads as follows:

U.S.-CHINA COOPERATIVE SCIENCE PROGRAM, SEMINAR ON URBAN PROBLEMS. Oct 30,-Nov. 7, 1972, TAIPEI, REP. OF CHINA,  Dr. John Warfield.

The name tag is inside a clear plastic holder with a little plastic slide down panel at the back so that the tag can be slipped into the vest pocket of a man's business suit. I scanned it, plastic holder and all, and have placed the PDF FILE of the name tag in John's VITA folder on my home computer. I suppose I will try to send the name tag to GMU Special Collections, eventually, asking them to place in Box 2, Folder 17 with other memorabilia. (R.W., August 11, 2016).
