Philosophy 3: The Legacy of Charles Sanders Peirce

Hard copies of course materials and individual handouts to accompany “Complexity Lecture No. 9.” Part of a series of 12 lectures on complexity given at the Johnson Center, George Mason University. First of three lectures on the topic of Philosophy. The full title of this lecture is "The Legacy of Charles Sanders Peirce and the Experience of the Peirce Biographer (Joseph Brent, Historian, Ph. D.)." A VHS video is available under “Philosophy 3: The Legacy of Charles Sanders Peirce.”

These Hard copy of course materials and individual handouts were not sent to GMU, instead John prepared three tape-bound reports, titled Lecture Groups 1, 2, and 3, which were shipped to GMU in 2000. They are in Box 36 of Warfield Special Collection. This was Complexity Lecture No. 9, of a series of 12 lectures given during 1998 Fall semester at GMU. It was the first of three lectures on the topic of PHILOSOPHY. After the series of 12 Complexity Lectures was finished, copies of these papers went into a tape-bound report titled George Mason University Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity, Lecture Group 3. The report is in Box 36, Folder 11 of GMU's Warfield Collection at Fenwick Library. Lecture 9 was videotaped by GMU student video center, and the single tape cassette is in Box 67 of the Warfield Collection.

Here is the complete list of the Lecture 9 CellPack items, now saved as computer files at Warfield's home. Computer filenames of document containing materials used: mergedchronology.wpd = chronology of Peirce's life; keyideas.wpd = Peirce talk; resources handoutforlecture9 = transparencies, etc, printed & given to audience.

List of transparencies prepared for this talk Peirce on Thought; Peirce on The Four Ways to Fix Belief; Peirce on "Demands on Logic"; Peirce on "The Value of Formal Logic"; Peirce on a "Singular Self-Deception" (The Observer and The Observed); The Philosophy of Science According to Charles S.
