This material was shipped to Fenwick Library Special Collections, George Mason University, Fairfax, VA on 23 October 2000. This paper is a manuscript submitted to the SMC journal, as evidenced by Editor Andy Sage's letter dated 7 July 1979 confirming its receipt and transferring it to reviewers. ( Also there is a letter here from Warfield to Griff McRee, with whom he is thinking of writing a proposal about something connected with options profile, but I can't figure out what) Is this a further rewrite of a paper titled Options Profiles (Partial draft) John first drafted Dec 11, 1978, then rewrote as Options Profiles and Policy Synthesis (Draft for Comment) and dated April 24, 1979? Or is this a different paper from the April 24? My guess is that the three are all part of the same chain, but I am not positive. The ideas in this paper are an outgrowth of Warfield's work for the Environmental Education project he did between 1976-1978. In the bibliography for Warfield's published 1979 article "Systems Planning for Environmental Education," IEEE:SMC v9 n2, (818-823) there is a reference to this paper. It is listed as Reference No. 20, no citation given, saying it is "under review." However, this paper, with its description of Warfield's newly developed Options Field/Options Profile technique, was never published anywhere. Andy Sage as Editor of the SMC journal, disagreed with Warfield on some of the English grammar used in the manuscript. Warfield had never again submitted it anywhere, but instead just taught Options Profile ideas for the next twenty years, as part of his Interactive Management Workshops, and let other people learn it that way. Also in this folder are copies of some reviews of the paper, and correspondence with Andy regarding revisions and resubmission. I haven't found any letters here or anywhere else about the grammar dispute, which came later, after the revised and resubmitted paper was ready for publication. But I know it happened that way
