Managing the Unmanageable: Process Leadership in Organizations, Lecture Mexico-1 (Draft)

First drafts of transparencies and production notes to accompany  "Managing the Unmanageable" lecture Number 1. Planned for presentation in Mexico in Spring semester, 2000, but cancelled, the lecture “Process Leadership in Organizations”  was instead made into the first videotape of an overall series of 14 lectures, 9 of which were filmed.  See this lecture on video or see the slides for this lecture.  See also MTU2000, The Video Lectures.

This is a group of WordPerfect8 paper printouts of lecture notes and slide shows, which were forerunners of John's videotaped "Lecture 1-Process Leadership in Organizations"  filmed by George Mason University television in February 2000.

The files for this set of documents are on Rose's home computer files in the folder MEXICOVIDEOLECTUREDOCS. These documents were first created for use in  the “Managing the Unmanageable” lectures, a series to be presented in Mexico as part of John’s semester at ITESM in spring of 2000.

When John got severe bronchitis and had to cancel his guest lecturer commitment at ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico, he returned to the U.S. and created an entire series of 9 audiovisual lectures, on videotape, which ultimately he shipped to ITESM. The  Mexico Video Lecture slides went into in the first lecture, filmed by the GMU TV studio.

At George Mason University, the TV studio didn’t like to use WordPerfect, and redid John's  WordPerfect transparencies into a set of 67 PowerPoint slides, which were used for filming. The GMU videotape of Lecture 1  was the first of the Managing the Unmanageable series AND THE ONLY ONE TO BE FILMED AT GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY TELEVISION STUDIO.

Below is a list of the WordPerfect8 documents printed out as manuscript copies and donated to the Warfield Special Collection C0016 at Fenwick Library, where they are in Box  21, Folders 17 and 19:

1) Mexicovideocells.wpd contain the WordPerfect8 cells used as basis for the PowerPoint document. John's cells designed for the talk, all in WordPerfect8, except for two figures, drawings of the floor plans for DEMOSOPHIA room, which he had in hard copy.

2) mexicovideo.wpd = notes made by John describing the filming and the subsequent use of the tapes.

3) mexicovideoscriptoutline = talk outline used by John during filming.

4) powerpoint slides memo.wpd - memo written by John, addressed to GMU officials, describing the video, and inviting them to view the tape at their convenience.

5) warfield.ppt = dated Feb 23, 2000, 1:50 PM.  John's cells revised and reformatted by GMU into Microsoft Powerpoint for use in the filming of the video. This file includes floor plan drawings for a Demosophia (situaion room design by Warfield). The GMU television studio made a photo slide of the floor plan drawings, and inserted the slide into the PowerPoint file, so it is incorporated as part of the computerized record.

6) WarfieldfixedwithB2G.ppt =date on this file is Mar 16, 2000, at 9:57:20 AM, it must be a correction or revision of some sort made by John to correct warfield ppt or he would not have saved it.  If ever reprinted, one would have to compare the two versions and decide what to do about this later version..
