The concepts of CONTENT, CONTEXT and PROCESS are applied to the development of a criteria-based model for academic disciplines in higher education. The basic elements of fundamentals which became Warfield`s DOMAIN OF SCIENCE model are all found in this paper. C. S. Peirce is mentioned in the paper, as an intellectual source for Warfield's work. The paper was presented in Halifax on 10 October 1984. The IEEE Proceedings version was so poorly printed that in 1995 Warfield re-typed it himself (and re-retyped it in May 2008) into a 12-page WordPerfect version, to keep as a PDF in our files for use in making student copies. We also have a DOC file typed in MS-Word6, by Bonnie Seitz in the 1990's. And finally in 2012 Rose Warfield found the fuzzy 7-page photocopy of the old IEEE Proceedings document again, and made a scan of it, for the record. Although the original offprint paper was retyped three times, none of the subsequent copies included all of the figures, there is still a Figure 1 which is missing. Originally all the figures had to be done with another software program, then printed and inserted separately into the document, and I am sure the missing Figure 1 is somewhere in Warfield's files, but who knows where? Just be sure and save the old blurred smeared up offprint if you want the total package.
