Reflections on Churchman, The Philosopher

Written as a reply to an inquiry from a potential biographer of Churchman. Warfield expresses admiration of Churchman’s notable contributions but notes his limits as a philosopher, especially in the field of Peircean logic.

Written in reply to a request from Van Gigch who wanted to write a book on Churchman after Churchman had died - Warfield is admiring of Churchman's notable contributions while regretting Churchman's limits as a philosopher, especially in the field of Peircean logic. In a final sentence ending his 2-page paper Warfield calls himself a "curmudgeon." (Warfield had expressed an honest opinion, but was not unaware of the assistance Churchman's column gave to the startup of the journal Systems Research, of which Warfield had been editor) r.w. 28 August 2013.
