A Role for Values in Educational System Design

This paper advocates the use of interpretive structural models to identify and represent value decisions in educational system design, based on a consistent set of values from the educational philosophy of Ralph Barton Perry. Presented at IEEE-SMC International Conference on Cybernetics and Society, Systems Man and Cybernetics Society, Hyatt-Regency Cambridge Hotel, Boston, MA, 7-9 October 1980.

While attending this conference, Warfield also conducted a 3-day evening-session workshop on Interpretive Structural Modeling. There is a file folder containing rough notes on this workshop, titled: "Boston Course" ? Prior to its presentation at the IEEE Boston conference this paper was published as Appendix 3 in Designs for the Future of Environmental Education, Vol. 1, which was part of a final report on Contract #300-700-4028, submitted to U.S. Office Environmental Education in July 1980. As the appendix 3 in that government report, this paper is available on microfiche from ERIC: ACCESSION NUMBER: ED196713.
