This may be the only English-language translation of any of Cauer's works. An important German mathematician in the early 20th Century, Cauer was shot by the Russians during their invasion in 1945. George Knausenberger, Cauer's student and colleague, came to America after the war and worked for the Ordnance Research Laboratory at Penn State, where he met John Warfield. The two worked on the translation together for a number of years.
On the home bookshelf we had copies of the English translation and also of the original book by Cauer, which was published in Germany. I haven't found the home bookshelf copy. Warfield might have donated it to a library some time and we might not have it any more. I looked up the title in WorldCat database and discovered that Hampton University Library has a copy, perhaps that is one that Warfield donated to them, along with other items, in the late eighties. R.w., circa 2000 ----- in 2014 update, this book appears to be the only English language translation of any of Cauer's works, from what I can learn from internet search. It is available for loan through openlibrary.org, and easily located through google search for locations of copies in libraries. Warfield has commented that the book was important when it was published, but that now so much more has been done in non-linear studies that the book is outdated.
