The Work Program of Complexity, Presented via PictureTel to ITESM Virtual University

A collection of the documents which Warfield prepared for a Picture-Tel (two-way) Presentation to ITESM Virtual University class of Professor Robert Palacios in Mexico City. ITESM Virtual University has produced a videotape of this Picture-tel class. See, "Modulacion Estructural de Sistemas.”  There is not yet a digitized version available for download, but the cassette video is available at Fenwick Library's Warfield Special Collection, in Box 96 Folder 2.

Sent to GMU on 31 January 2001, this folder holds a collection of the documents which Warfield prepared for a Picture-Tel (two-way) Presentation to ITESM Virtual University class of Professor Robert Palacios in Mexico City. Warfield gave this lecture at George Washington University Television Studio in Washington, D.C. on April 13, 2000. Ordinarily he would have used a studio at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. However GMU's Picture-Tel facility which he had used before was unavailable on the day needed for the presentation to the Mexican audience, so Warfield rented studio time at George Washington University instead. (Technical NOTE: The George Washington University Television Studio didn't actually use Picture-Tel, but something much like it which they called "Compressed Digital Video").

In this folder of documents can be found not only the WordPerfect slides which Warfield prepared, but also several revisions of the slides, as well as a list of the titles. Warfield did not like PowerPoint . He used WordPerfect which worked much better for some of the figures he had to display. He had prepared all his slides for the Picture-Tel class in WordPerfect and sent them to Mexico beforehand. Prof. Palacios had the WordPerfect slides all converted to PowerPoint for the video presentation. He sent a file of the PowerPoint slides to Warfield, from Mexico. There was some glitch in the digital file transmission over the internet and as a result Warfield was unable to open the Mexican PowerPoint file. So he was unable to run the slide show from the Washington D.C. studio. So the Mexicans ran the PowerPoint part of the talk, from Mexico City. Warfield had to ask for each PowerPoint slide to be displayed from the Mexican studio during the actual broadcast. We still have that Mexican PowerPoint file on Rose's computer, and we still can't open it, to this very day! We may never get it open. I am glad to say that in the years since then PowerPoint has improved its software so that now it is as good as WordPerfect for Warfield’s special figures, and Warfield has changed to PowerPoint now, for most of his work. As part of the Picture-Tel transmission, Warfield displayed his photos of other IM PEOPLE. He had just begun his collection of photos at that time. He had pictures of Roxana, Scott, Moses, and Roy. In spite of transmission awkwardness and delays it was a fairly good presentation, partly because of the pictures showing the contrast of types of people doing IM work.

Photos used in this Picture-Tel lecture were used again in Warfield's video lecture "Interactive Management Process Leaders in Organizations," No. 2 in his series of MANAGING THE UNMANAGEABLE videotaped a few months later.
