The Institute for Advanced Study in the Integrative Sciences (IASIS)

This is just a couple of paragraphs describing what IASIS is and what it does.

At first glance, this is just a couple of paragraphs describing what IASIS is and what it does. Warfield says he is certain he wrote this but not sure precisely when. He said it looks like the kind of thing he would have had to write for the University catalog, providing a brief description of the Institute. "It was probably written for the catalog, almost certainly" he said. "They always need things like that." Judging from the address of “Integrative Sciences” given at the heading of this memo it must have been written around 1986, the year that he got his Institute separated from "Information Technology" to become "Integrative Sciences" in order to get away from Andy Sage. The memo could have been written a year or two later, but no later than 1990, which was the year that Warfield's office moved out of Thompson Hall to G-Module, following the departure of Alexander Christakis. So the memo was written 1986 or shortly after. The 1986 version is listed in the GMU Finding Aid, in Box 92, Folder 8

Not so fast. Now I have found a 1990 paper with this same title exactly, and it has five paragraphs. Warfield probably rewrote and updated the memo, at different times for different audiences. I am giving both versions the same ID NUMBER in my Access database, hoping they are one and the same paper. GMU Library has the hard copy, a shorter, earlier version, while my digitized version (dated May 1990) is longer, but both are similar, and only a page in length. My 1990 digitized version seems to match in style and format a companion memo of 2 pages titled "The Center for Interactive Management" also done in 1990.

Quite a lot of fuss here over a one-page document, but I need to add that this title is DESCRIBED AND GIVEN AS A REFERENCE IN WARFIELD'S MAY 1990 DOCUMENT TITLED "Information about IASIS and CIM Frequently Asked Questions and Answers".
