This group of transparencies is an outgrowth of Warfield’s 1985 paper “Course in Generic Design for Engineers”. George Mason University probably has copies of these pages, but I am not sure which of their titles corresponds to this collection. In the Warfield Special Collection at GMU, Box 14 Folder 1 holds papers titled "A Course in Generic Design," Teaching Materials [John N. Warfield ], 1985" which might have the transparencies. In this file there are 15 transparencies which appeared as figures or tables in Warfield’s 1985 paper Course in Generic Design for Engineers. Warfield used these transparencies in workshops and lectures during the period beginning in 1985 and continuing into the nineties. Three of the transparencies (DS-15, DS-16 and DS-17) dealt with First, Second and Third Laws of Design. Warfield has attributed the origin of these Laws to works by Ross Ashby, George A. Miller and Kenneth Boulding. For better explanations of these three Laws Warfield had prepared one page typed handouts for the audience. Each of the handouts was actually an excerpt from Warfield’s published paper Course in Generic Design for Engineers. I have scanned Warfield’s one-page handouts and added them at end of this file, to augment the transparencies numbered DS-15, DS-16 and DS-17. R.w. 10 Feb 2013 P.S. Warfield at one time had another numbering system for all of his transparencies. The column on the left of the contents list represents the other numbers he had assigned to these pages.
