Applications in Industry & Government: Applications in the U. S. Food and Drug Administration-Johnson Center Complexity Lecture No. 3

A videotape of a presentation by Dr. Alexander N. Christakis, one of Warfield’s former colleagues. Christakis and two women associated with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discuss the FDA’s use of Interactive Management. This was the third in a series of 12 lectures on Complexity given at the Johnson Center, GMU. See also, “Applications 1: Applications in Industry & Government; Applications in the U. S. Food and Drug Administration” and “Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity: Lecture Group 1.”

Sent to GMU 23 Oct 2000. There was a guest speaker for Lecture No. 3. It was a very good videotape, and a very good presentation by Dr. Alexander N. Christakis, a former colleague of Warfield's who had moved to private consulting in Philadelphia as head of CWA Ltd. Christakis brought with him two women who were associated with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the three of them presented an interesting description of Christakis's work with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, where he had been using Interactive Management (I think Christakis had changed the name but it was still Interactive Management using Warfield's ISM methodology).

The FDA received an INNOVATIONS IN GOVERNMENT award for its accomplishments following their work with Christakis and Interactive Management. The lecture was videotaped by GMU student video center technicians. It was approximately 2 hours in length. Christakis asked us for a copy of the video, and I got a copy made and sent to him in a few days. I asked him to send copies of his slides and handouts to Warfield's office, for our files, but Christakis never sent us anything, so I don't think anything from this lecture was printed in Warfield's tape-bound booklet, JOHNSON CENTER LECTURE SERIES ON COMPLEXITY: LECTURE GROUP 1, issued after the lecture series. In 2000 the VHS cassette was donated to Fenwick Library Special Collections and Archives, where it is in Box Number 67.
