There are nine VHS cassettes from this workshop, I have not had opportunity to view the tapes, so cannot give information on their length or content.
OVERVIEW:
The sponsor for this project was American Indians for Opportunity (AIO). It is a national organization promoting improvement of economic and health and social conditions for Native Americans and the incorporation of traditional Native American values into tribal governance. Benjamin J. Broome and Alexander N. Christakis were the facilitators who, with other staff from George Mason University's Center for Interactive Management, traveled to northeast Nebraska for this onsite Workshop. The Winnebago Tribal Council met with CIM staff in South Sioux City, Nebraska, during July 30-31, 1987, for two full days of workshop sessions. The participants used Nominal Group Technique (NGT) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) to clarify and structure problems. Following that was clarification of options which might alleviate these problems and finally the choosing of options which the group felt might best have an influence on each of the specific problems. There are additional videotapes with commentary by Reuben Snake, Council President, by Ladonna Harrris, Director of American Indians for Opportunity (AIO), and by Council member Donna Vandall. They discussed their reactions to the workshop methods and resulting avenues for tribal self help in dealing with a set of very difficult economic and educational conditions burdening the Tribe.
There is one cassette tape of John Warfield speaking about the Winnebago project. It was probably filmed by Ben Broome before or after the actual workshop. Warfield did not attend the workshop in Nebraska, since he gave the facilitation and operation of the workshops completely to Aleco, who was CIM Director.
"Building Consensus on a Winnebago Self-Sufficiency Plan" is a 20 minute film produced by AIO and edited by Ben Broome which summarizes the workshop. A 58 page Center for Interactive Management Report has almost the same title: "Building A Consensus on a Winnebago Self Sufficiency Plan." The Report is in Box 10, Folder 9 of the Warfield Special Collection at Fenwick Library. Also the IASIS File has a copy of the report, in IASIS folder number 87/011. Complete list of tapes. They are all available as hard copy, at Fenwick Library on VHS:
