Product Information Management Systems (PIMS) Workshop, Disk 1 of 13

A DVD copy of the first of 13 VHSvideo cassettes from the Ford Product Information Management Systems (PIMS) Interactive Management Workshop held in Dearborn, Michigan 11-14 January 1994. According to Dr. Scott Staley, the PIMS system was still in use at Ford in 2005. See notes for a full list of the DVDs from this workshop.

Project managers from several divisions of the company meet in a group work setting to tackle problems faced in achieving the goal of a unified database system. Filming was done for two purposes, for documentation of the workshop and for use in training on how to run IM WORKSHOPS. For the original VHS version Click here. The tape cassettes are at Special Collections & Archives, Fenwick Library, George Mason University, in the Warfield Special Collection. The DVD versions were requested from Fenwick Library by Warfield, in 2005, after Warfield was able to get an O.K. of funding for the copying job. Warfield still had some money in his GMU accounts administered by School of Public Policy, and he asked Public Policy to O.K. the copy job. The tapes were copied in April 2005 by VOX- CAM in Silver Spring Maryland, and the DVD's sent to Warfield in Florida. Fenwick Library also got a copy of the complete DVD set which was placed in Fenwick Library's own Warfield Special Collection. The original set of 13 DVDs came from Vox-Cam with MACHINE PRINTED LABELS on WHITE BACKGROUND. At home, we made a backup set, on Office Depot disks, labelled simply ""PIMS"" with a felt ink pen. I have placed the original Vox-Cam set in the small wood cupboard holding all of Warfield's writings which I intend to keep in the family. I don't know where the Office Depot disks are, probably somewhere in a box I haven't unpacked yet. Or maybe John Warfield gave them to somebody. These, like all the Ford videos, were filmed in Dearborn, Michigan. Usually two copies of the video tapes were produced, one given to the Ford Library and the other to Warfield's Institute. I have the Ford Library numbers for earlier workshop tapes, but not for this one, so perhaps Ford Library doesn't have it. Ford Motor Company has copyright ownership of all the Ford tapes.
