The Complexity Lectures on CD-ROM (10 of 10 disks)

This is a set of 10 MPEG-3 files on 10 compact disks, derived from VHS videotapes of John Warfield's Complexity Lectures filmed during 1998 Fall Semester at George Mason University's Johnson Center. Only nine of 12 Lectures, however, were videotaped. See notes field for a list of the lectures. For the textual materials on these films, See  “George Mason University Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity, Lecture Group 1,” “George Mason University Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity, Lecture Group 2,” and “George Mason University Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity, Lecture Group 3.”

I was unsure about how to list these compact disks. In the end, the MPG-3s are listed twice in this database, first as a set of ten CDs, all in same ID NUMBER 10323. Second I listed the video files again, giving an individual ID NUMBER to each  of the ten lectures in two formats, MPG and VHS. This is overkill, but I decided one can always erase what is not needed in the future. For now, I am just leaving them as double entries. R.w., April , 2013.

NOTE: AS OF APRIL 2013, THE TEN CD-ROMS BELONG IN SMALL WOODEN CABINET IN ROSE'S LIVING ROOM APARTMENT AT 157 E. JOYCE BLVD, FAYETTEILLE, AR. GMU HAS THE ORIGINAL VIDEOTAPE CASSETTES FOR THE LECTURES, donated in 2000-2001. This mpg3 set of files was derived from the Videotapes in 1999 a year or more before the VHS tape cassettes were given to GMU Library.  (r.w. 2007)

John Warfield's Complexity Lectures were filmed during 1998 Fall Semester at George Mason University's Johnson Center. Only nine of the 1998 Complexity Lectures were videotaped, with Lecture Number 11 filling two VHS cassettes, so that there were ten VHS videotapes in all.

In 1999, the ten VHS videotapes were converted into movie files (mpeg) and fitted onto CD-ROMs, by JoséAntonio Maradiaga a student technician at IRC (GMU's Instructional Resource Center). Amazingly, José was able to fit contents of each video cassette, one by one, onto a compact disk. José completed MPEG-3 conversions on every one of the ten videotapes. Professor Warfield’s office budget paid for José’s work, done through IRC.

When he retired in the year 2000 John Warfield donated the VHS Cassettes of his Complexity Lectures to GMU Libraries. The ten CD-ROMs were saved in Warfield's office at GMU and eventually moved with his books and papers to Florida.
