The Bertalanffy Lectures

README FILE FOR THE ALBUM FOLDER TITLED “Bertalanffy Lectures” This is a collection of manuscript/powerpoint materials. Everything here is a DUPLICATE, a copy of the original file which is located elsewhere on Rose’s computer. Rose’s first name for this folder was “CHINA TALKS August 2002,” but In March 2016 Rose changed it to “Bertalanffy Lectures” (to avoid duplication with a similar folder which John had named “CHINA TALKS CD-2002") As the Bertalanffy lectures, this folder holds four PowerPoint slide shows of varying length ? Middle Human Science: Seven Challenges for Systems Science ? The Road Less Traveled: Constructing Systems Science Construction Systems Science from the Basic Triad for All Science ? Middle Human Science: Three Levels of Human Science ? Middle Human Science: The Thought Leaders,Evolution of Systems Science in Pictures There is also a copy of Warfield_91_16_A1b.pdf, which displays “The Road Less Traveled” as part of the Warfield Digital Collection at George Mason University. This group of lectures was prepared for use with 1) a plenary presentation at International Society of Systems Scientists annual meeting at Oriental Riverside Hotel, Pudong, Shanghai, China in August 2002, 2) an hour-long workshop/class later on in the ISSS conference, 3) a plenary lecture at a “Complexity Conference” sponsored by Tongji University in Shanghai during the same week as the ISSS conference, 4) a fourth lecture to be presented at University of Mining and Technology in mainland China. Originally John had been invited to give “The Bertalanffy Lecture” for the ISSS annual meeting, with an hour alloted as a plenary speaker. But changes in the conference schedule forced him to revise his lecture plans several times. By the end of July 2002 his final revision of his keynote speech was designed to fit a 10 to 15 minute time slot. His other lecture, the hour long lecture and slide show, was presented later as an evening workshop class during the conference. Another slide show was the talk for the Complexity Conference. After the two Shanghai conferences, these files were used for faculty and student lectures at Dr. Xufeng Song’s University of Mining and Technology in Xuzhou, in mainland China. The file names John has for these slide shows are MTU62 (11)MHS3--SevenChallenges.ppt ID 00852, 11 slides (Seven Challenges) Bertalanffy Lecture-Part 1 (given at ISSS conference Aug 3, 1998 session, as keynote) C:\Users\rosie\Documents\John Warfield Papers\INVNRW\JwPapers\SLIDE SHOWS\MTUBYtheNUMBERS\MTUSonlySEQUENCED\MTU62 (11)MHS3--SevenChallenges.ppt MTU42 RLT-(75)Constructing Systems Sciencej(75) ID 00608, 75 slides (The Road Less Traveled) Bertalanffy Lecture-Part 2 (given at workshop class on August 4, 1998) C:\Users\rosie\Documents\John Warfield Papers\INVNRW\JwPapers\SLIDE SHOWS\MTUBYtheNUMBERS\MTUSonlySEQUENCED\MTU42 RLT-(75)Constructing Systems Sciencej(75).ppt MTU60 MHS1 = Middle Human Science ID 01327, 25 Slides (Three Levels) C:\Users\rosie\Documents\John Warfield Papers\INVNRW\JwPapers\SLIDE SHOWS\MTUBYtheNUMBERS\MTUSonlySEQUENCED\MTU60 (25)MHS1-MIDDLE HUMAN SCIENCE.ppt MTU61 MHS2 = Middle Human Science ID 01326 13 Slides (Evolution in Pictures) C:\Users\rosie\Documents\John Warfield Papers\INVNRW\JwPapers\SLIDE SHOWS\MTUBYtheNUMBERS\MTUSonlySEQUENCED\MTU61 MHSS2--(13)SYSSCIasMIDDLEHUMANSCIENCE.ppt Warfield_91_16_A1b.pdf = this is the pdf file which I downloaded from GMU digital collection. It was scanned and accessioned into the Digital Collection April 2, 2009. Which was about the date David Houpt was there because his elegant abstract for “The Road Less Traveled” is the now printed with the digital collection version of this paper, at http://hdl.handle.net/1920/3466. I can’t reuse GMU’s abstract for our Warfield Web Page (it is copyrighted) but David wrote another SUMMARY for Warfield Web Page ID 00608 which will work well. (r.w. March 9, 2016)
