The author proposes that to combat serious economic problems of all African countries it is necessary to address the low l evel of technology development in all countries, and that one solution is to extend the role of African universities beyond the traditional role of teaching and research, and to effectively link some activities of the University to the productive sector, since Industry is the dir ect agent of development.
