"It is a very complex task to conceive an automatic tool for the auto matic layout of diagrams used in Information Systems that is really parametric with respect to a wide variety of diagrammatic representa tions and drawing styles. The goal of this paper is to approach this general problem, investigating aesthetic rules usually followed by human beings in drawing and perceiving diagrams.
