Warfield's writings are used as reference by Bowen. Bill sent him this draft manuscript June 1991. I don't know whether or not it was later published. Abstract: Technological advances in information processing and telecommunications may increase organizational independence and escalate situational complexity without increasing the human congitive abilities to fully anticipate the range of impacts of particular decisions. Any of the various decision aiding methodologies such as MAUT, AHP, or PROSCAL may, at times, augment the human cognitive abilities and be of great value in managing complexity. But different ones can lead to widely divergent decision outcomes. Thus decision theory is important as a means of selecting between them.
