First Paragraph: Data Envelopment Analysis is an empirically based op erational method for estimating production function efficiencies. The methodology is based on the direct observation of a firm's behavior-- decision making unit (DMUs)--in combining a set of inputs measured in different metrics (i.e., dollars, number of employees, hours worked, e tc.) to produce a set of outputs also measured in different metrics (i .e., volume of sales, number of satisfied customers, dollar value of o utput, etc.).
