Abstract: Starting from the viewpoint of theories of self-organizing s ystems, this paper (l) generalizes a two-phase mechanism of growing sy stems, a concept extended from the self-organizing system, (2) gives a definition of the value set of growing systems, and (3) presents a th eorem about an important phenomenon of the value sets: the two-phase p henomenon. Value sets are not time independent. Any complete value se t of a growing system consists of two subsets that will dominate the s ystem one after another as long as the system grows.
