ABSTRACT: The Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) was announced on September 29, 1993 by President Clinton and Vice President Gore. PNGV is a partnership between the federal government and USCAR (U.S. Council for Auytomotive Research). USCAR is an organization formed by Chrysler, Ford and General Motors to collaborate on precompetitive research to strengthen the technology base of the domestic automobile industry. The government participants include seven federal agencies (Dept. of Commerce(Lead), Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Transportation, etc., 20 national Laboratories (Argonne, Lawrence Livermore, Sandia, etc., and the Office of the Vice President. Together, USCAR and the federal government seed to demonstrate technology that could enable creation of environmental vehicles with three times the energy efficiency of today's Taurus, Lumina and Concorde class vehicles.
