Bringing Graphics Down To Earth

Discusses benefits of using graphs as aids in education. Provides tutorial on how to read and understand graphs.

 

Originally written for the OEE Project, and was included in a 1979 report sent to Walter Bogan, (see below). This is a draft manuscript found when Rose Warfield was cleaning out the file drawers in October 2000. She just dropped it into a file folder and shipped it off to GMU with the rest of the stuff collected at that time. The archivists at GMU found it as an unpublished MS and placed the file of this paper in the digital collection so it is now on the web as part of GMU's Warfield Special Collection available for download at http://hdl.handle.net/1920/3107.

It happens that in 1997 this was one of the papers Warfield wanted saved to digital, so we had Bonnie type it into MS-Word6, so now we have an .rtf version of the document done by Bonnie. Later, in 2012, Rose found Warfield's typed manuscript again, and has scanned it for her home computer files, with the filename same as the title: Bringing Graphics Down to Earth. Rose's scanned pdf file is totally accurate, as is the one at GMU Warfield Digital Collection.

It is a very good primer or tutorial for training in how to read and understand graphics, using everyday objects such as chicken, egg, hogs. TOPICAL HEADINGS in the article are:
