Demands of Complexity on Higher Education: A seminar

Cell-pack for talk in which Warfield outlines the ideas behind his proposal for a new tri-partite university structure, composed of a "University College", a "Professional College" and, for doctoral students, a design-oriented "Horizons College." Presented at the George Washington University Center for Social and Organizational Learning, 28 March 1995.

This talk was given first at George Washington University. There is no talk outline, just a cell-pack list and a written preface. In the talk, Warfield outlines the ideas behind his proposal for a new tri-partite university structure, composed of a "University College", a "Professional College" and, for doctoral students, a design-oriented "Horizons College". (A few days later a second talk, which was an expanded version of the first one, was presented at the TIPP (Public Policy) colloquium at George Mason University.) Here is the list of transparencies: Preface Page, Page 1. "The university is presently failing…" ; Page 2. "What are the demands of complexity…"; Page 3. "Origins of low productivity…"; Page 4. "Relevant Remarks from Alexander Pope," First of a 2-page set; Page 5. "In wit, as nature, what affects our hearts..(Pope)," Second of a 2-page set; Page 6. Between circles, the linking lines are without directional arrows; Page 7. "What are the 3 primary interrelated attributes of a complex situation"; Page 8. "The Work Program of Complexity…Outcomes Sought"; Page 9. "Behavior--Outcomes Matrix"; Page 10. "Teaching," "Research," "Service." Single page with no TITLE, consists of three interlinked circles, with a caption inside each circle. Between circles, the linking lines are without directional arrows; Page 11. Page 3; The cell-pack manual described above was usually distributed with an unpublished article titled "Demands Imposed on Higher Education by Complexity." Both titles were printed and tape bound by IASIS. The two companion reports were used as handouts to audiences at presentations. R.w. Circa 2000, updated 20 April 2015.
