“Education in Generic Design," [John N. Warfield], 1986 is an entry in the GMU finding aid with location of Box 31 Folder 9 which is maybe Bonnie's Microsoft Word copy job, mislabeled. A version of the author's Domain of Science model was printed as Figure 1 in this paper which was submitted to the conference several months before publication. By the time Warfield made his presentation of the paper, in May 1986, he was already displaying, as a transparency, his bigger and better Domain of Science graphic which has since superseded Figure 1. The Sigma-5 figure by Warfield is also in this article in print for the first time, although it had been used frequently in presentations by CIM staff, prior to its publication here. The Sigma concept was first used by Warfield in workshops which he directed in Saudi Arabia (1980-1982) and shortly thereafter in Brazil (in May 1982). Fig. 4 of this paper is a scanned photo of DEMOSOPHIA, the situation room used at George Mason University for conducting IM WORKSHOPS during the 1980's. This was one of two papers which Warfield presented at this Philadelphia conference. The other paper was his "Domain of Science" article. Warfield's comments on this paper, written in his 1987 manuscript "Integrative Sciences…." EDUCATION IN GENERIC DESIGN "a paper in the proceedings of the 1985 SGSR meeting, which is a shorter version of the paper "A Course in Generic Design' which was published in Poland" (I am pretty sure Warfield's 1985 date is in error, he gave this paper in Philly at the 1986 conference, as far as I can tell) It is part of the GRAILS proposal, as an appendix, if I can't find decent copy elsewhere get it from there.)
