This document is a generic plan for an Interactive Management Workshop, using an example from workshop planning done for Ford Motor Company in 1992. The document was reprinted and revised several times, each time with varying title page and author statement. SEE ALSO: Two other Textual Materials records titled 1) "An Example IM Workshop Plan (1992 Draft)" 3) "An Example IM Workshop Plan (Restored)." Sometimes there was no author statement. At other times the author statement was "Scott Staley and John Warfield," and other times the author statement was "John Warfield and Scott Staley." Scott Staley was primary editor/author of a 160 page Ford Motor Company report written in 1992. John Warfield was primary author of two sections in the Report which were later used as components of the short article "An Example IM Workshop Plan." The Example Plan consisted of two excerpts (Pages 1-8 and Pages 153-159) from the Ford report titled: "Application of Interactive Management to System-wide Planning for Analytical Powertrain, Document No. 2, IM Workshop Plan, March 1992, Draft of April 2, 1992." [MISSING LINK] The second of these two excerpts came from Appendix 1 of The Handbook of Interactive Management, 1991. It was Staley 's wish to include Appendix 1 in the 1992 Ford report, because Staley knew many people at his company would not be studying the lengthy Handbook, yet might be more attuned to the IM workshop processes if they read Pages 153-159 of his Report. The first Example plan document (containing both excerpts) was 15 pages in length. This 15 page document was drawn from old facsimile transmissions between John Warfield and Scott Staley. When writing the original report in 1992, Staley and Warfield had exchanged faxes constantly, to make revisions. Warfield can't find the original complete Ford report which was 160 pages or more. Now all he has is the old fax pages, so that is what we used as our office file copy for the "Example Plan." This Example Plan was photocopied over and over again, for years, for use as a handout to students and visitors. It was requested so often that finally on 9 July 1997 Rose Warfield typed a new title page for the facsimile photocopy, to use with the Fax pages as an office Master Document. This 1997 version, essentially a reprint of the 1992 version, and had both of the excerpts from the 1992 report. In 1999 Warfield retyped the entire Example Plan document, putting it on computer disk for the first time, but he did not include the second excerpt (Pages 153-159) from the old Ford report. Instead, he indicates to readers that they should read Appendix 1, pages 227-234 of The Handbook of Interactive Management. His 1999 Example Plan was prepared for attendees at a big Interactive Management workshop training session which he taught at George Mason University 15-18 February 1999. At this training session, all of the participants were to have a copy of the latest Handbook, and Warfield preferred they read and study the Handbook in its entirety as well as the Appendices. He didn't want the students in his Workshop to have any short cuts, so he just omitted the second excerpt. Warfield placed his 1999 Example Plan on a computer diskette and gave it to the Workshop attendees to use as a Prototype in designing their own future workshops. The 1999 Example Plan document can be placed on anyone's computer where it will be possible to edit the contents of the plan by deleting the references to Ford Motor Company and filling in information to suit individual needs. In his 1999 updated version, Warfield's Example Plan manuscript reproduced the old title page from the Ford Report, dated March 1992. However, nowadays Warfield's Example Plan is often known as the "IM Workshop Prototype Plan" so Rose has added that as a subtitle, in her own database record. R.w. circa 2007.
