The manuscript is chiefly a bibliographical work, giving lists of writings by Warfield and his colleagues. Among other lists can be found Warfield's Categories for study as he envisioned them in 2004: Study of the Human Being, Study of Language, Study of Reasoning, Study of Thought Leaders, Study of Formalisms, Study of Sciences, Study of Models, Study of Processes, Study of Education, Study of Organizations.
An unpublished 2002 version of the manuscript was actually just a tapebound report, from a 3-ring note binder compiled for reference use by Special Collections staff at Fenwick Library. The tape bound report was cataloged by GMU Library in 2002. In 2004, with assistance of Special Collections department, a hardcover version was planned. It was to be copyrighted as a formal publication by AJAR. It turned out to be a very slim book manuscript, with minimal number of pages because two lengthy papers in the 2002 version had to be removed. In the two-year interim the two papers had been accepted for publication and copyrighted by the journals in which they appeared. As replacements for the two papers, Warfield wrote additional materials in 2004, and reorganized the contents of the 2nd edition manuscript which was completed in October, 2004, and shipped to Special Collections for further steps of bookbinding, cataloging, etc. Apparently this thin, slim 2nd edition manuscript was misplaced somewhere in the process, and replaced by GMU Library's already cataloged 1st edition. Currently missing in hard cover, this 2nd edition is available only as download from the John N. Warfield online catalog.
There is an error in Bowker's "Books In Print" which lists the unpublished 2002 first edition as having ISBN 978-0-9716962-9-7. Instead, the Bowker ISBN number 978-0-9716962-9-7 is for this, the SECOND EDITION, a revised manuscript published in 2004 by AJAR. (r.w. circa 2004-2005, but updated circa 2011 and updated again April 9, 2014)
