Inflicted Suffering in Africa

Argues that certain banking interests are acting on self-interest along and manipulating the price of gold in attempt to keep it as low as possible. In turn, this manipulation results in the impoverishing of gold producing nations in Africa. Information from the Gold Anti-trust Action Committee (GATA), a coalition of gold producers working to stop the manipulation, is the basis for the article.

Sent to GMU 27 September 2007. This paper was part of Warfield's collection for his Economics Research studies. He had placed a copy of it in his Economics Research Note-binder No. 6 and listed it in his Index of economics study papers. This article was written, Warfield says, in March or April of 2001, is intended to be printed in a proposed INTERNATIONAL HANDBOOK OF PANETICS which the Panetics Society is hoping to produce. Warfield sent this draft to the Society president, Ralph Widner, in April or May 2001. The main theme of the article is to advertise the fact that in their own self-interest certain international banking interests are manipulating the price of gold, attempting to keep the gold price as low as possible, and that this manipulation results in the impoverishing of gold producing nations in Africa. Information from the Gold Anti-trust Action Committee (GATA), a coalition of gold producers working to stop the manipulation, is the basis for John's article. GATA HAS A WEBSITE WHERE AN ONGOING DISCUSSION OF GOLD PRODUCTION PROBLEMS IS MAINTAINED. The url is: http://www.gata.org/
