Description of the documents in the SOUTH AFRICAN THESIS folder. 1. "Dissertation Review for Witwatersrand,EXAMINER’S (DRAFT) REPORT" Warfield's first attempt to write a review of the thesis, this document was not sent to South Africa, but instead was used by Warfield as a reference for the commentary which he wrote by hand as requested on a printed Examiners Report Form which was mailed to South Africa when he returned the thesis manuscript. Warfield did not make a photocopy of his writings on this Report Form, although he should have done before mailing it. 2. Hanrahan email Copy of Prof Hanrahan's request to Warfield to be an outside examiner, and Warfield's agreement to do so. 3. Letter of Transmittal. This letter was mailed 7/10/2003 with return of the manuscript, it was accompanied by a short vita of Warfield (as requested) and by Warfield's two Manuscript Analyses, as attachments to the printed Examiners Report Form 4. Manuscript Analysis-1(July 10, 2003) 5. Manuscript Analysis-2 (July 10, 2003) 6. "Running Comments on Achterberg Thesis" (DRAFT) Warfield's notes made on the computer as he was reading the thesis on or about July 4. This document was not sent to South Africa. 7. "Systems Education in Academia" (DRAFT) An unfinished document written by Warfield at the time he was doing the review work for Witwatersrand. This document was not sent to South Africa. In summer of 2003 Warfield was hired to be the "outside examiner" for the thesis (dissertation would be word used in U.S.) written by Russell Achterberg, doctoral candidate in Systems Engineering at University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Warfield was happy to accept the appointment and eager to do the work. The doctoral program was in a school where Warfield's bright young friend and colleague Theo Andrew had recently become the Engineering Dean.
