This material was shipped to Fenwick Library Special Collections, George Mason University, Fairfax, VA on 23 October 2000. The workshop took place 13-17 December 1980, in Ryadah, Saudi Arabia, under the joint sponsorship of SANCST and the U.S. National Science Foundation. Warfield was assisted during the workshop by Robert J. Waller and Kazuhiko Kawamura. The ISM session was conducted by use of the mainframe computer at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio, in a long-distance telephone connection. See also a companion manuscript in this database “Strategic Planning for Saudi Arabia: Sigma 5 Meetings and Consensus Methodologies". Although now in Warfield Special Collection at Fenwick Library, theOriginal documents of both these Saudi Arabian manuscripts were kept for years in our home basement file cabinet, along with other papers and correspondence concerning Saudi Arabia and the consulting work which Warfield did for them from 1979 through 1982. Extra photocopies were kept in office manuscript files. NOTE: In 1997, we are attempting to sequence the early IM workshops. This Saudi workshop, while not the first, was one of the earliest ones. Warfield says he thinks that the very first IM workshop was done by Robert Waller, with the Cedar Falls, Iowa city council, in the early seventies. In 1975 Robert published a paper titled "Application of ISM to Priority-setting in Urban Systems Management." Also in the early seventies, Kazuhiko Kawamura and a Battelle Memorial Institute team did some workshops in Louisiana which were written up and published in a 1976 Proceedings of Instrument Society of America and there were some run at Battelle in Columbus.
