The paper consists of a set of very complicated one-page tables which Warfield plans to use in a forthcoming book. Warfield has commented that his goal has been to condense into one document a series of tables which would give a complete overview of all the work he has been doing, in a coordinated manner that can be quickly reviewed and understood. CondensedPatterns97 is a preliminary version which had 4 tables with a table of contents in which each of the four tables is explained in a summary statement. It was printed as short report in a tape-bound booklet and distributed to a few colleagues. Warfield used the 1997 version (with 4 tables) as part of his lecture materials titled Managing Complexity, when giving a conference and workshop in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 1997. Tom Ryan then photocopied the "Patterns" to use as part of a conference proceedings volume. But at that time the series of tables was incomplete, and they still remain a work in progress. This is an unfinished paper. This 1997 version is a 6p manuscript without page numbers. Titles of the tables are: Pattern 1: Chronology: Seven Milestones in the History of Thought (filename: cow106) Pattern 2: Milestones in the Study of Human Behavior (filename: cow107) Pattern 3: Chronology: The Work Program of Complexity (filename: cow108) Pattern 4: Five Indexes of Complexity (filename: cow109) See also the paper titled CondensedPatterns98 which is similar, but is 9 pages long and has 5 tables.
