Economics Research Note-binders

A collection of materials Warfield collected while studying economics. Originally planned to write a book on the theories of influential economic thinkers. See also, "Index: Research on Economics" which is a comprehensive outline of and contents list of the topics and articles found in the note-binders.

Warfield began serious study of economics after retirement. He obtained a comprehensive reference reading list from his friend Robert Waller, who held a Ph.D. in Economics. He started to study the theories of influential economics thinkers, and was beginning a book in which he analyzed those thinkers and their ideas in short biographical sketches, which he probably intended to develop into a book, sometime. After several years his Economics studies began to clutter up his study, so he organized them all into a series of ten large loose-leaf note-binders. He never achieved his goal of either writing a book or developing a new approach for the study of economics, but he purposely filled the note-binders in hope that some student might somewhere gain benefit and insights from his collection of materials. In August 2012, John Warfield's Economics Research Collection of ten large white note-binders plus the booklet titled "Index: Research on Economics" were donated to University of the Ozarks, a private liberal arts college in Clarksville, Arkansas, for use by faculty and students as "fair use" study materials in college classes. Lists of every document inside the ten Economics Research note-binders have been saved in the following files inside the Economic Research FOLDER on Rose Warfield's home computer: LIST OF JNW PAPERS in ECON NOTEBINDERS.wpd Index Research on Economics.pdf (id-1235, A spiral bound 8 x 10 inch booklet) Contents List given to U of Ozarks.wpd Contents List with sources of papers.wpd

SEE ALSO the following title in this Database : "Index: Research on Economics". Warfield's ten note-binders had copies of articles by other authors whose work he intended to study. He had found these other authors on the internet, printed out their articles and placed the printouts in ten large white three ring note-binders. The note-binders also held a few miscellaneous articles which Warfield himself had written, most of them short paragraphs, unfinished manuscripts and the like. Rose scanned and saved all of the Warfield writings on her home computer in an Economics Research FOLDER. Rose did NOT scan nor save the many internet articles which John had downloaded from the web and placed in orderly fashion inside his ten notebinders. Persons interested in those printouts, which are all articles by other authors writing on economics, finance, money, marketing, etc, can find them on the web by using the search terms from the documents titled Excerpts list (of downloads in notebinders).pdf and Excerpts List Numbered.pdf created by John and preserved in his Economics Notebinder No. 7.

In 2009, the last year of his life, Warfield created a pamphlet to accompany his ten-note-binder collection. It is a spiral-bound booklet with green cover titled "Index: Research on Economics." This booklet was a comprehensive outline and contents list of all the topics and articles within his ten note-binders. Warfield had not only indexed but also categorized the contents into various fields of study, making the booklet an adequate beginning toward such uses as a college syllabus or a book manuscript. From the booklet, here is Warfield's annotation: "The Notebooks are in a bookshelf in my office. They have a white outer appearance, but have a distinctive blue lettered spine, identifying them by number, the numbers on the spines corresponding to the contents pages appearing in this pamphlet. It has always been my ambition to structure the field of economics, using the concepts from the theory of relations. It is unlikely that I will be able to accomplish this, because I have had to give priority to other matters, but perhaps the material that I leave behind might inspire someone else to take on this task." Rose did not keep hard copy of any materials in the ten note-binders. However the ECONOMICS RESEARCH folder, and Warfield's INDEX pamphlet provide digitized references to the internet articles which Warfield had printed for the notebook collection. Also Rose made sure to scan complete text all items written by Warfield for this collection. Digitized versions of all Warfield's writings and can be found on Rose's computer in folder name ECONOMICS RESEARCH.

Also of interest are letters from a few economists whom he had apparently contacted earlier and who had responded to his request to join him in the study. Here is the list of letters I found so far. I am tucking their letters (email messages all) into the boxes of economics papers, in a maroon folder Warfield had labeled "HELPER'S file. Economists who responded” 1) David C. Books from Warfield's home library were also donated to University of Ozarks as part of the Economics Research gift, including his prized volume of essays by Hayek, edited by Caldwell, and Griffin's Creature from Jekyll Island, plus about a dozen more books on Economics. A complete list of the book titles donated to Univ of Ozarks is in a file inside the ECONOMICS RESEARCH folder on Rose's computer. R.w..Dec 21, 2012
