This is Part 1 of the Report titled "Four Case Studies: Applications of Interactive Management." It describes the successful use of Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) in the John Deere Company. This is Part 1 of the Report titled "Four Case Studies: Applications of Interactive Management". The Warfield Special Collection at GMU has a copy of the entire Four Case Studies report holding Parts 1,2,3, 4. GMU library does not include this separate version of Case 1, which includes added descriptive pages 391-397 from Warfield's book A Science of Generic Design. Later this paper became part of an Appendix in a report titled A Philosophy of Design. This was a successful use of ISM in the John Deere company, in the early 1980's. Steve Landenberger, who conducted the project under the guidance of Robert Waller, wrote a long report on it titled " Using Decision Making Tools to Solve Quality Problems" which we don't have any more. The Landenberger report was in the IASIS FILE cabinet file number 84/005, but I don't have copies of the IASIS file papers any more. R.w., May 2012. NOTE: PS: Hooray I located Steve's report. It is listed in the GMU Finding Aid, so it isn’t lost after all! It is at Fenwick Library in Warfield Special Collection, Box 37 Folder 61 (r.w. 10/19/2012)
