A. N. Christakis interviewed by Ben Broome March 1985

An interview of Alexander Christakis conducted by Benjamin Broome. In the interview Christakis explains the ideas and potential uses of Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) and discusses what the mission and goals of the Center for Interactive Management at George Mason University. There were two interviews, the first of which did not go well.


 

Sent to GMU on 23 Oct 2000 The 1985/1986 interviews of Christakis are on both Beta and VHS and therefore the titles are listed 2 times in this database. There are 2 cassettes of the 3/4 inch master tapes which GMU has.

 

There are also 2 VHS copies, listed in this separate record, which are at Warfield's home and at ASU Hayden Library. These two VHS copies (at ASU Hayden Lib and at Warfield's home) are under the title: "A. N. Christakis interviewed by Ben Broome." I am not sure but I think that the two VHS copies are both of only one interview, the SECOND interview. Our VHS tape is lost, so I can't tell for sure whether we have one or two interviews on it, etc. etc. The cassette we most want to keep track of is what is known as Christakis's "second interview" because the first one did not go well. Ben Broome interviewed Alexander N. Christakis twice, the first time because Christakis was trying to do it from a script, which was just a flop. I am sure we have that first interview on some scrap of video, but as of today, Feb 2007, I haven't identified the location, as yet. But Broome tried again with Christakis, telling him to just throw away the script and tell it in his own words. Broome then got this second interview, on 13 March 1985 - a great video with Christakis speaking extemporaneously. Christakis did a wonderful job of explaining ISM and the purposes of the GMU Center but did not get all details on the creation of ISM correct. We sent one VHS videotape copy of the 13 March 1985 interview to Arizona library along with an eleven page transcript typed by Rose Warfield on which extra notations showed the spots where Christakis made mistakes. John Warfield has one copy of the VHS version at home. I am writing this Feb 2007, and can't look at the GMU tapes, but from the list I see on internet there must be another interview on the same tape, one of Warfield. Not sure, will have to check that out sometime. We had no way to play back the 3/4 inch tapes, but the GMU library can probably get it done if I ever get up there again.
