The full title of the interview is: “Preguntas Dr. Warfield.” John Warfield is interviewed by Roxana Cardenas, Chairman of the Systems Engineering Department at Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico. In this interview Dr. Warfield responds to questions from the Tech Institute faculty and staff regarding his recently published book A Science of Generic Design.The book had recently been undertaken as a group study project in Monterrey. The questions were translated from Spanish into English by Professor Cardenas, who then brought them from Mexico on the occasion of her attendance at the 1991 meeting of the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) in Washington, D.C. The interview was videotaped on the campus of George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia on 23 February 1991. As the tape begins, we hear the voice of Professor Benjamin Broomeof George Mason University. Dr. Broome had arranged for the videotaping, and had set up the equipment. He is speaking about the workings of the camera, before they start the interview. Occasionally through the interview we will also hear background street noises, since the recording was made in a university classroom, not a soundproof studio.

The typewritten transcript was done in August 1993 by Rose Warfield. The computer filename for the transcript of the interview is imw025.wpd, on Rose's computer. A copy of the transcript is in John Warfield Special Collection at Fenwick Library, in Box 50, Folder 26. Also, audio tapes are in Box 52.

(NOTE: Originally there were two video cassettes, Tape 1 and Tape 2. The Fenwick Library Finding Aid list now shows only Video Tape No. 2 in Box 55. I am not sure why Tape 1 is not listed but sooner or later it will turn up. Also Roxana has copies of both videotapes, as a backup.)
