Report on Military Software.

Summary: Pending
This report is missing from the PAPERS BY OTHERS file cabinet . The Defense Science Board report was used as a basis for the `TECHNOMYOPIA' paper which John presented in a talk before a joint meeting of two chapters of Washington D.C. IEEE (computer society and soc on social implications of technology). John also used this Defense Board report, and some other Defense Board stuff, for a student `CASES NOTEBOOK' on SOFTWARE for a class he taught in 1991. John loaned the report several times to different colleagues, and we are pretty certain that he loaned it out to someone who failed to return it. He has loaned it to Henry Alberts among others, and still thinks Henry might have it somewhere among his books. Henry says he has looked for it several times but can't find it. Maybe Henry loaned it to someone else, and that person never gave it back. Another person who might have it is Richard Evans. Or any number of others. Tony Perino maybe? Who knows? Anyway we are pretty certain that John's copy of this report is gone for good. John eventually called the Pentagon asking to be sent another copy, but they never sent it. The 1987 report substantiates the stupidity and waste involved in the SDSI (strategic missile defense missile project). John made copies of several pages from the report, and included the pages as part of his own manuscript which he prepared for the 1988 talk to the IEEE chapters. John's manuscript is filed in his manuscript papers file, under the title "Technomyopia...."
