Peirce and Turning: Comparisons and conjectures

Summary: Pending
AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET WITH GOOGLE TITLE SEARCH. Sent to George Mason University in year 2000, a copy of this paper found in boxes of John's saved papers, John marked it on his list "CR" meaning Comparison Paper to save for use by future students. Quote by the author, from opening section of his paper: "In seeking to compare the works of Alan M. Turning and Charles Sanders Peirce, I will be suggesting that Peirce made some hithero unnoticed contributions to the theory of machine reasoning. Indeed much of what he wrote was even published in his lifetime, although not in the most obvious places. In order to emphasize this point, my bibliography will cite Peirce's publications as they appeared in his lifetime, not in terms of more recent editions or collections of his work. Another of Peirce's contributions to computer science seems to me indisputable, but he is rarely given credit for it by historicans either of computing or logic. I am speaking of the fact that Peirce was among the leading creators of modern symbolic or mathematical logic  So that we might be led to a better understanding of the efforts of both Peirce and Turning in regard to the nature of mathematical method, my purpose will be to present, in some detail, evidence about Peirce's efforts in this matter, especially as they pertain to the question of 'machine reasoning.'  Then I will suggest some points of similarity between Peirce and Truning, and conlcude with some conjectures about the nature of mathmatical method, and the connection of all this with the theory of semeiosis."
