Applications 3: Applications in Cyprus

Lecture notes and transparencies to accompany “Complexity Lecture No. 7” by  Benjamin J. Broome  who discusses use of Interactive Management (IM) in Cyprus to help address political and ethnic divisions. Part of a series of 12 lectures on complexity given at the Johnson Center, George Mason University. Third of three lectures on topic of Applications. A VHS video and CD MPG is available under “Applications of Interactive Management in Cyprus Johnson Center Complexity Lecture No. 11.”

Applications in Cyprus

Complexity Lecture No. 11

Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity

7 December 1998

The guest speaker for Lecture 11 was Professor Benjamin J. Broome, of the Communication Department at George Mason University, who had spent time in Cyprus on a Fulbright fellowship. His talk dealt with his use of Interactive Management in trying to settle differences between hostile ethnic/political groups on the Island of Cyprus.

Printouts of the transparencies used for Lecture 11 were misplaced in 1998. When Broome brought them to the IASIS office as Warfield had requested, Warfield was either sick or busy, so Broome gave them to me. And I put them away, not realizing they were supposed to go into Lecture Group 3, a set of reports on Johnson Center Lectures. When Warfield finally found out about Broome’s papers, it was too late; the reports had already been sent to the printer. So Broome’s stuff is not in the booklet "George Mason University Johnson Center Lecture Series on Complexity, Lecture Group 3," as it should have been. (r.w. circa 2007)

But EUREKA, FOURTEEN YEARS LATER, I found Broome's transparencies for his December 1998 lecture among old papers saved by the Warfields when moving to Florida, then Alabama then Arkansas. Finally, in Fayetteville, I can at last scan Ben's Lecture #11 Transparencies and, if I ever get the chance, will try to get these transparencies placed in the same folders with the other Complexity Lectures, in the Fenwick Library Box 36, Folder 11. (r.w. April 2013)
