Societal Systems: Planning, Policy and Complexity, 1989

Describes a unique methodology for coping with complexity - Interpretive Structural Modeling - which, with its efficient and rapid organization of knowledge, can become the basis for dramatic social gains. The book contains all of the theoretical and mathematical back-ground for the ISM process and it remains in use as the major source for persons wishing to develop software for Interpretive Structural Modeling. This is a soft-cover reprint of Societal Systems: Planning, Policy and Complexity (1976).

A soft-cover reprint of Societal Systems was published in 1989 by Intersystems. The 1989 version has a corrected page 231, to replace original page 231 which was found several years after publication to have a small math error. Copies of the reprinted softcover edition are in the IASIS File cabinets at David Acker Library, Defense Systems Management College, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and at the Institute Library at ITESM (Instituto Tecnologico) in Monterrey, Mexico. SEE ALSO the record in Textual Materials table titled Societal Systems: Planning, Policy and Complexity which is the 1976 first edition.

Update on the annotation, as of 14 Feb 2014 Dan Warfield took the last remaining copy of soft cover 1989 2nd edition to get scanned copies made of the pages, for reprinting, something that was not possible with the hardcover unbound copy because the unbound copy was not a flat sheet. Dan got the old binding sliced off the soft cover, and this left the complete text in flat easy to scan pages that could be run through a machine. When this was done, finally, in 2014, the print shop which had sliced off the old binding noticed a page discrepancy and hand counted each page of the 490 pages from the 1989 edition and discovered TEN pages missing, as follows: 131 - 132; 207 - 210; 229 - 230; 245 - 246. The 1989 BOOK was scanned anyway, and now we have a pdf file of the entire 1989 EDITION which can be reproduced and printed properly, as soon as we recover the missing pages from the original unbound copy, get them scanned to the same size as before, which Dan says is possible on his home scanner, and insert the missing pages into the soft cover edition where they belong, so that the reprint is finally totally accurate. In the meantime, as of this date, there is at last a pdf file of not quite an entire book, which we are carefully saving until next phase. The filename on Rose's computer is: "Societal Systems John N. Warfield.pdf" More later. R.w. Feb 2014.
