Transcript of Lecture 1, Resolving Complexity in Organizations

This was the first a series of 14 class sessions Warfield taught at GMU in Spring Semester 1999. It is a topical overview of the course. The videotapes which match this transcript are in Box 68 of Warfield Special Collections, listed in the GMU Finding Aid as Discovery and Complexity, January 30, 1999. Tape 1 of 2 and Discovery and Complexity, January 30, 1999. Tape 2 of 2.

There were 14 class sessions ending in May 1999. Rose Warfield made notes and saved computer files on all of the lectures, but has transcribed verbatim only two. See also Transcript of Lecture 2.  Some of the other audio tapes of this class are interesting to hear even without watching to video, and written transcriptions of all 21 videos would be a nice thing to have, to accompany the videos, if anyone ever had the time to do it. We have saved all the audio tapes, as well as the videos. . There were several different titles for the papers and audiovisuals connected with this class; each is in this database under its individual title. To locate the other items connected to this course, please see “Resolving Complexity in Organizations.”
