Memorandum on University-wide Academic Initiatives

A collection of writings Warfield planned to work on in the future and two documents from university administration related to possible reorganization of curriculum and departments. See also, "A Two-Domain Theory of Action."

These papers were found in an old note-binder left by Warfield. The note-binder, papers he collected during 1998-1999 hold projects or writings he intended to work on in the future and never got finished. I have included with Warfield's Memorandum two documents from university administration, so that the entire scanned PDF file on my computer contains 1) Warfield's Memorandum written 26 May responding to Deans and Directors May 24 proposals 2) A message from George Mason University Provost David Potter, requesting faculty participation in a "University-Wide Academic Initiative" dated 12 April 1999. 3) A message from George Mason University Deans and Director with a number of proposals for reorganizing curriculum and departments, also proposing a national policy symposium to be sponsored by GMU dated 24 May 1999.

I scanned Warfield's Memorandum as the first of the PDF file documents, although actually it is the last one in time sequence, but the GMU administration documents are pretty lengthy reading without a prompt of some sort. To begin his Memorandum to Deans and Directors, Warfield gives two "References." Reference 1 is the Deans and Directors May 24 proposals, while Reference 2 is a 33 page report by Warfield, titled "Two-Domain Theory of Action: Steps Toward Meeting the Demands of Complexity." SEE ALSO the record in this Textual Materials table with the title: "A Two-Domain Theory of Action" I don't know if the GMU Deans and Directors all received a copy of Warfield's 33 page Report, or whether Warfield sent them only his 4-page Memorandum hoping it would inspire Deans and Directors to seek out the 33 page Report and read it. I don't even know whether Warfield actually sent this 4-page Memorandum to the Deans and Directors. Warfield's memorandum, if read, is not very understandable without the two documents from GMU administrators describing their efforts at "academic initiative." Also, Warfield's memorandum is not very understandable without his own lengthy 33 page Report, separately listed in this database, by title Two Domain Theory of Action. R.W. 13 Feb 2013.
