The truth is that the world of pure mathematics is far broader than th e short list of traditional fields: algbebra, calculus, analysis, top ology, etc. In recent times, since the advent of the computer which h as penetrated into every aspect of human activity, there is now a long list of new mathematical fields. I am not just speaking about a long list of new applications to problems of the real world, I am speaking about new mathematical disciplines in the pure sense. This talk befo re the ICCS-90 is largely drawn from the author's earlier address to the American Mathematical Society.
