The Mathematics of Structure, 1986

A fragment of an article which apparently was intended to be quite long. This manuscript has two outline or contents pages of the projected complete paper, followed by three pages of typed text.

Presented as a four day short course for the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, (ITESM) Monterrey, Mexico, 5-9 June 2000.

Augmented by a 2-page introductory Preface written in September 1997, this manuscript consists of Chapters 8, 9 and 10 of John's out of print book Societal Systems, using original page numbers, from p. 208 to p. 284. These chapters contain the essential mathematics needed for understanding Interpretive Structural Modeling and for writing the software. The manuscript, an 82 page report, served as a student manual. It was precursor to, “The Mathematics of Structure

Transparencies to accompany “Complexity Lecture #6.” Part of a series of 12 lectures on complexity given at the Johnson Center, George Mason University. Second of three lectures on the topic of Science. A VHS video is available.

An outline of a book Warfield hoped to write. It includes a table of contents plus chapter headings with topical headings listed as the text of each chapter, plus the names of the papers and books which would be the source for the full text manuscript. Used as a handout during a one-week short course for the Center of Academic Excellence, Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, (ITESM) Monterrey, Mexico, 27-31 July 1992.

The Mathematics of Design

Discusses the significance of thinking in sets, making decisions from a series of options, using a "mathematics of display" and study of the theory of relations as important parts of a university's freshman year mathematics curriculum. Deplores that such ideas are being ignored by educators

This is a printed tape-bound booklet created by Warfield in response to Kluwer Publishing Co questionnaire for authors, in which they asked for book information, possible marketing outlets, etc.

Mapping Environmental Education

Description of Warfield’s application of Interpretive Structural Modeling to environmental learning concepts while he served as a project director of an environmental education project for the U.S. Office of Environmental Education. Compares the conclusions of previous educational research with his own recently developed educational methodology and argues that his approach is much more effective. Proceeds to cover the Options Field and Options Profile methods and show how they may be used with the help of a trained facilitator, to enable effective participatory planning and creation of usable environmental educational systems at the regional level. At the time he gave this talk, in 1979, his Final Report for the project had not yet been printed. The Final Report describes above methodology in full; it was published under the title: Designs for the Future of Environmental Education (1980 ) Volume 1 and Volume 2.

This tape bound booklet was prepared as a handout to accompany Warfield's seminar/talk before the Phoenix chapter of INCOSE (International Council of Systems Engineering) on 5 December 2003. See notes field for a list if its contents.
