Catalog (2256)

Excerpts from the book manuscript for “A Structure-Based Science of Complexity” used as a handout. Presented at 22 October 1999 meeting of Washington Evolutionary Systems Society (WESS), Washington, D.C.
A generic plan for an Interactive Management Workshop, using an example from workshop planning done for Ford Motor Company in 1992. See also, “An Example IM Workshop Plan (1992 Draft)” and “An Example IM Workshop Plan (Restored).”
An excerpt from a CIM Workshop report, this is a set of 14 pages which comprise the table or diagram of a DARPA options field from an August 1987 Interactive Management Workshop.
Manuscript written to accompany the videotape titled DEMO TAPE 1, which was a series of seven excerpts from videotaping of the Ford Product Information Management (PIM) workshop held 14-16 January 1994 in Dearborn, Michigan. For a copy of the video, see “Ford PIM Workshop.” See also, “Demo Tape: Excerpts from FORD PIM Workshop filmed 11-14 Jan. 1994 in Dearborn, Michigan” and "Notes on the Ford Product Information Management (PIMS) Workshop Held During the Period 11-…
Not written by Warfield. May be notes or another author’s paper, possibly Walker Percy.
Surveys research, study and applications needed to bring the new tool of Interpretive Structural Modeling into its full potential. Suggestions include more and better computer programs, training of session leaders, development of the theory of cycles, development of computerized graphical displays and increased help for the use of the process by the non-mathematical user. Presented at Seventh Annual Pittsburgh Conference on Modeling & Simulation, University of Pittsburgh, 26- 28 April 1976.
The final report for Grant No. ENG75-17609, submitted to the National Science Foundation Division of Grants & Contracts, Post-Award Branch. This is the 2nd of two reports differing in content but having the same title. This report, prepared for the use of persons already knowledgeable about ISM but unaware of the various applications of the process, contains a bibliography of papers on ISM applications and theory. See also, “Extensions of Interpretive Structural Modeling: A Report…
An annual report for Grant No. ENG75-17609, submitted to the Systems Theory and Applications Program, Engineering Division, National Science Foundation. This is the 1st of two reports differing in content but having the same title. The purpose of the NSF grant was to provide a survey of the uses and applications of ISM. See also, “Extensions of Interpretive Structural Modeling: A Final Report to the National Science Foundation, 2.”
A series of internal memos written between approximately 1983 and 1988 that deal with the facilitation of Interactive Management Workshops. Includes Warfield’s instructions to Alexander Christakis on areas of facilitation that need improvement, a review of Christakis’ activities as supervisor to other facilitator trainees and Warfield’s handwritten notes.
Discusses the planning of an Interactive Management workshop, including consideration of situation room design, choice of equipment, personnel, and triggering questions. Composed for class at Defense Systems Management College.
Information on Warfield’s books A Science of Generic Design, 2 ed., A Handbook of Interactive Management and Societal Systems: Planning, Policy and Complexity. Includes details on copyright ownership, name of original publisher, out-of-print status, current availability to buyers, synopsis of book, academic usage, types of manuscript or computer files and other materials available.
An analysis of management system known as “Direct Engineering.” Consists primarily of a three-page table (a Field Representation). Composed as a review of a Ford Motor Company report “Direct Engineering /University of Michigan Innovation Decision-Making Study.” See also, “Ford Motor Attributes Re Innovation.”
A Table of Contents for Warfield's intended workshop course on Mathematics of Modeling. See also, “Composite Index (part of Mathematics of Modeling), “Foundations of Thought. Pages 5-39 of Notebook #1 prepared for Mathematics of Modeling Workshop” and “The Mathematics of Modeling-Partial Draft.”
A review of work done at Battelle Institute's Academy of Contemporary Problems to develop and disseminate Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) and its associated methodologies. Includes lists of persons associated with this effort, organizations and persons who requested and received information on the process, and ISM exercises held at Battelle during 1974. Problems of complexity are addressed by use of a set of methods consciously employed to help generate and structure ideas.
Report from Warfield’s first exploratory trip to Ghana in 1989. Recommended three things: 1) Ask the Koreans how they had accomplished the change from a communistic society to a successful capitalist system 2) Try to develop a pharmaceutical industry, working from the strong knowledge of herbal remedies already possessed by Ghanaians 3) Try to establish a contract research establishment in which scientific consultants from universities would be paid by Ghanaian industrial and agricultural enterprises for…
